- I grew up in a little town in New Jersey, where I met my husband, Al, 47 years ago. We married soon after, had three children, who have now blessed us with ten grandchildren. After we were married about ten years, Al was transfered to Pennsylvania, where all of our family is still living, and settled with families of their own. We were able to take an early retirement and moved to our new home in Delaware. I love to decorate and drive Al crazy at times, with ideas that I need his help with. I guess after my family and my decorating, I have to mention my dogs. I love their company and often speak of them as if they are one of my kids. My name is Marian, but was given the nickname 'D' by my first grandchild, first calling me Gram 'D' then droppiing the Gram and just calling me 'D', and it stuck. So I answer to both names. I enjoy company and hope that I will get to meet many of you here. My door is always open. ;)

One day while I was cleaning and had all the furniture pulled out in the middle of the room, I turned around and there was Sergei curled up, asleep on the sofa.

My decorating books are always close by. This is only a few of them.
The picture above and below are of the mural I put at the bottom of our guest bathroom wall. I did it mostly for our grandchildren who are the ones that use it the most.
This picture is for POOH ;)
These are Christmas ornaments that I make. I've given many as gifts and when I get started making them, it's like eating potato chips, I can't stop. Although they show up pink in the picture, they aren't. Maybe I'll make them as a raffle gift on here around the holiday. That's if I have the time now that I have a blog. It takes me about a day to make each one.
There is just something about this picture of this office window that I really like.
We took apart a closet to make room for Al's desk in his little office. I made that desk for him, from a kit, many years ago, he doesn't want to get a new one. I also covered his desk chair recently, it was my first attempt at something like that.
I just love sitting in this little enclosed porch, off our kitchen. I can watch the birds at the feeder, which I can see right over the top of the curtains. Plus these doors that enclose the porch, were once used as the store front of my boutique

THE DEMITASSE SET
Okay girls, get out that box of tissue that you keep passing around, while I tell you about my wonderful mother-in-law and her first visit to America to meet me and her first grandchild. After we picked her up at the airport and she got setteled in for her visit with us, she retreived her suitcase that Al had put in the bedroom, where she would stay. She sat down on the sofa, next to me, and carefully took out and unwrapped the demitasse set. After admiring it and giving her a big hug and a thank you, I placed it carefully on a shelf. then I proceded to take her suitcase back into her room. As I picked it up, it felt empty, so I mentioned it to my husband. He took it upon himself to look inside, out of concern. All that that unselfish women bought with her to wear, were the clothes on her back and two pair on underwear. She had come with a group from Italy and there was a limit to how much luggage they could bring with them.
Mamma's Tatting
Can any of you understand how very special these pieces are to me. Mamma gave them to me on one of her visits to us and America. She carefully unpacked them and placed them under pieces in our livingroom. I've left them just about how she first placed them, removing them only to dust and to wash twice a year.

OUR BACK PORCH
We really love our porch :) Before Al put the roof over it last year, it was just a deck, one we didn't use much unless we had company. Last year, he built a roof over it and we ate out there all the time. Just last week he finished laying a new floor and it's looking better, and better all the time. Now it's my turn, to add all of those finishing touches.

Marian, I wrote before but I don't think you got it. I loved your blog page and was so impressed with the back porch. It is beautiful. I didn't know that you were into dishes, where in the world do you keep them? I also sent you an e-mail, let me know if you got it. I bookmarked this page so it will be easy to reach you.
