A SENTIMENTAL TABLESCAPE THURSDAY

I've been very emotional this week, let me explain. One of my cousins, on my Father's side of my family, offered me my Grandmother's dishes, and they arrived this past Monday. This first picture is of the UPS truck delivering them.

I was all thumbs trying to get the box opened, so my DH offered to give me a hand.

When the box was opened this note from my cousin was the first thing I saw.

And finally the first dish is unwrapped and I get to see and hold a plate, in my trembling hands.

I lined up all the plates on the dining room table and started to plan how I was going to present them for today's tablescape. The three dinner plates on the right, are a different pattern. I'll have to check with my sister about this, but I think they might be the same pattern that my mother had. After she died, they were given to our brother, who had just gotten married, so I haven't seen them in many years, but they look very familiar to me and this would be a double blessing if I find out I'm right.

My Grandparents were farmers and the parents of eleven children, and they had a whole lot of company. So the dishes got much ware and some on the pieces are missing. I decided to set the table as I would for a Sunday brunch after church, mixing them with some of my china pieces. In the center of the table, are my HOMCO figurines that I've come to think of as Grandma and Grandpa. They usually sit on the mantel in our family room. Grandma had been missing for many years, she got broken. Last week I found, and won, one on eBay, so she is back with Grandpa and we are all very happy to have her back.

The dinner plate has LIDO, W.S. George,Canarytone, Made in U.S.A. 127A, stamped on the back. The flower could be an apple blossom, but I'm not sure, I have to research it more. I layered my Lenox sandwich dish, then the bread dish, topped off with an egg cup, which I bought years ago from Avon. I included the horse figurine on the table because of my Father's love for horses and when I think of the farm I think of him and the horses he loved. This horse was made for me by our oldest son's Godfather.

Above the place setting is a two piece berry dish, which would hold some fruit to be served with the breakfast.

The goblet would hold our juice, I have to apologize here, I forget the name of the pattern, I bought them so long ago. The boxes are up in the attic and would have the name on them, but I have too many boxes blocking the stairs, which are waiting to be put up there too. If you read Dee Dee's note to me, you know that the cups didn't make it over the years, I used my Lenox cups for now.

Fresh baked Almond Biscotti is waiting to be eaten with a second cup of coffee to finish the meal.

The napkin rings are one of the first gifts we received after we were married. I used them to represent the wild flowers that grew in the fields around the farm. The napkins and placemats I've had for many years and bought at Boscov's when I worked there.

So, if any of you have been wondering why I haven't come to visit your blogs much this week, I've been in search of more pieces for the dish set. LOOK WHAT I'VE FOUND ON eBay. There is a bid, by someone else, on them right now, but I am praying that I will win them in the end. Wish me luck.
