'D's DayDreams: Olivia as the Ballerina

Our granddaughter Olivia, in her solo performance of the Nutcracker. I'm sure our daughter took pictures of Kristen, so I'll add those when I get them. This is such an exciting time of the year for our little dancers.

I was able to buy the photo that was taken by the newspaper photographer. I had asked them to crop it, which was an option. I didn't want the men in the picture, but they didn't crop it. :( So I scanned the photo, and cropped it myself, it came out a little grainy.

Sergei

I've been trying to get a good picture on my beloved Sergei for a while now. I take the camera ouside with me every time I take him out. I wait until I see him in a nice setting, where I'd like to take his picture, but as soon as I pick up the camera, he puts his head down, runs up on the porch and sits at my feet with his back turned towards me.

Now I've always been pretty good at taking my other dog's pictures in the past, so I'm disappointed that I can't get a good one of him. He's ten now, so I better get a good one soon.

My Mother-in-law

Where do I begin....... I guess the first thing I have to tell you is that my mother-in-law and I could never understand one another. She didn't speak English and I never learned Italian. :(

She didn't have much in life and during the second world war, the family lost everything, except each other, and even found themselves living in a refuge camp, when their beautiful town was invaded. Remember all the movies you've seen about those times and camps like that, well, that's what the family went thru. But Mamma always put her family before herself and the stories that have been passed on to me, are hard to listen too. So her generosity thru the years has humbled me and made me cherish the time we had with her and all those things she gave us over the years. I know I haven't taken the time to display all the items carefully, but after seeing the beautiful crochet pieces that Gollum put on her blog, I had to take some of the things she gave to us and share them.

THE DEMITASSE SET

Okay girls, get out that box of tissue that you keep passing around, while I tell you about my wonderful mother-in-law and her first visit to America to meet me and her first grandchild. After we picked her up at the airport and she got setteled in for her visit with us, she retreived her suitcase that Al had put in the bedroom, where she would stay. She sat down on the sofa, next to me, and carefully took out and unwrapped the demitasse set. After admiring it and giving her a big hug and a thank you, I placed it carefully on a shelf. then I proceded to take her suitcase back into her room. As I picked it up, it felt empty, so I mentioned it to my husband. He took it upon himself to look inside, out of concern. All that that unselfish women bought with her to wear, were the clothes on her back and two pair on underwear. She had come with a group from Italy and there was a limit to how much luggage they could bring with them.
